It was an artist’s dream come true when Ignasi Monreal was handpicked to create a book of fashion illustrations for Gucci this year. But the fact that he chose one of a winged man (wearing a Gucci suit and backpack) flying toward the sun as the cover image, is no surprise at all.
Ignasi has always felt an almost magnetic connection with the beauty and power of the sun. His name means “fiery.” And as a young boy in Spain, he became captivated by the story of Icarus, a boy who dared to soar near the sun on wings of feather and wax. “The myth of Icarus is a reminder,” Ignasi says, “Don’t fly too close to the sun.” Read More via NYTimes.
