The dealer and collector Kenny Schachter, who writes one of the most irreverent and insightful blogs on the art market, was once the sternest critic of Phillips, the aspiring number three art auctioneer.
In October 2014 he made fun of them, saying: “If the Marx Brothers sold art they would be known as the Phillips Brothers.” And just 18 months ago he wrote that Phillips was a “marginal player in a brand-fixated world where nothing will crack the hegemony of Christie’s and Sotheby’s. Phillips could have been a contender but they never cease to impress with how they get it wrong”.
But last week he changed his tune, telling The Daily Telegraph that Phillips has got its act together and could be the auction room to back over the next five years. Read More via Telegraph.
